SCHOLARSHIP FOR SOCIETY MEMBERS
Purpose of the Scholarship
The Society is offering an annual scholarship for a deserving Society member to assist with his/her education at the post-secondary level. There is no requirement for the scholarship to be awarded annually if there are no eligible applicants.
Eligibility
Society members may apply for scholarship funding during their senior year in high school or when enrolled as, or have been accepted as, a student in an accredited post-secondary institution. They must have a grade point average (gpa) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.
The scholarship winner may continue to apply each year as long as the student maintains at least a 3.0 gpa on a scale of 4.0 and is enrolled in or has been accepted by another accredited post-secondary institution.
Scholarship
The scholarship will consist of $1,000, as approved annually by the General Staff of the Society. The money will be paid directly to the school the student plans to attend.
Application and Evaluation
In addition to the application form, applicants are to provide a transcript of their grades from the last school attended; a report on their extracurricular and volunteer community activities; and a statement of how they expect to use their post-secondary studies in their career. These information sheets will be evaluated on content, organization, grammar, spelling, punctuation and neatness.
Applications must be forwarded to the Student Awards Committee, Society of the Descendants 0f Washington’s Army at Valley Forge, Marion Lane, 3821 Nanlyn Farm Circle, Doylestown, PA 18902, by February 1 of applied year; for funding to be provided for the following school year. The winner will be determined by the Student Awards Committee and reported to the applicant.
